Our Story

As parents of neurodiverse children, we understand the unique challenges families face, especially in rural and regional areas. After navigating long drives for appointments and feeling isolated from essential resources, we recognised a significant need for local support. This realisation inspired us to create The Place—a community space designed specifically for neurodiverse families.

Identifying the Gap
Our journey began with heartfelt conversations about the struggles we encountered. We quickly realised that many families were experiencing similar frustrations. The lack of local services often left them feeling overwhelmed and disconnected. As we shared our stories, it became clear that the region was in dire need of neuroaffirming practices that support children and their families in being the best versions of themselves.

We recognised that many existing services didn’t fully understand or address the diverse needs of neurodiverse children. Instead of focusing on one-size-fits-all solutions, we needed a community that celebrated individuality and promoted understanding, acceptance, and empowerment.

The Vision for The Place
Motivated by our experiences, we are excited to announce the upcoming launch of The Place, where families can find:
-
Occupational Therapy: Tailored sessions that focus on developing essential skills for daily living and improving overall well-being.
-
Speech Therapy: Person-centred supports that enable communication development, empowering individuals to express themselves with confidence and navigate daily life in a way that works best for them.
-
Family Support: Comprehensive resources and counselling to help families navigate their unique challenges and strengthen their bonds.
-
Neuroaffirming Workshops: Interactive sessions designed to educate families about neurodiversity and equip them with tools to nurture their children’s unique strengths.
-
Support Groups: Safe spaces for parents to connect, share experiences, and learn effective strategies from one another.
-
Educational Resources: Comprehensive materials to empower families with knowledge and tools for advocacy.

Building a Strong Community
The Place aims to foster a vibrant community by partnering with local therapists, educators, and organisations that share our vision. We believe that collaboration is key to creating a robust support network, and we are committed to engaging with community leaders to enhance our offerings.

Creating Lasting Impact
Our goal is to establish The Place as a vital resource for families in our region. By providing access to much-needed services—occupational therapy, family support, speech therapy, and neuroaffirming practices—we aim to create an environment of understanding and acceptance. We hope to uplift families and help them navigate their journeys with confidence, empowering them to embrace their unique challenges and strengths.
